Castelbajac Dresses the Pope

In 1997 Archbishop of Paris, Jean-Marie Cardinal Lustiger, invited Jean Charles de Castebajac to dress 5000 priests, 500 bishops, and Pope Francis II himself in rainbow striped cassocks for World Youth Day. He also designed T-shirts for the million young theology students who were to attend the event.

The colorful designs were intended to symbolise cultural diversity. The Pope’s robes were decorated with multicolor crosses embroidered by Maison Lesage, and his mitre was confectioned by Maison Michel.
