Claude Montana F/W 1990-91 Officer's Jacket
This breathtaking piece from Montana's Fall / Winter 1990-91 collection is a fantastic example of his 90s work. The shoulders are much softer than in his earlier collections, but he keeps the striking cinched waist, originally inspired by the styles of the 40s and 50s. The panelling speaks to Montana's incredible aptitude for tailoring.
The sloping chains connect two converging rows of round metallic buttons, emulating a Victorian-era military jacket, or perhaps in this color a ringmaster's jacket.
Montana's preference for vibrant colors is evident with this eye-catching red wool fabric. An identical model was worn by Betty Lago on the runway in a lovely mustard.
This piece was acquired from one of Claude Montana's stylists, who worked alongside the designer through to his retirement in the late 90s.
The chains are slightly inconsistent in color, but overall it is in pristine condition.
