Jacques Heim Haute Couture Striped Summer Ensemble circa. 1958-67

This mod style outfit dates back to the time of Heim’s presence in Brazil. Jacques Heim was the first couturier to understand the potential of the Latin-American market, opening a subsidiary in Rio de Janeiro in May of 1958. There he catered to country’s social elite, however as president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (1958-62) his mission was also to crack down on the unauthorized reproduction of French designs by foreign designers and manufacturers. This move represents an extremely important step for the internationalization of French fashion.

Heim both influenced and took inspiration from the Yé-yé style of the 60s. With his ‘Heim Jeunes Filles’ line, he was the first couturier to encourage early client loyalty by targeting a younger base.

He is also credited as the inventor of the bikini. In 1956, Brigitte Bardot wore his design, originally dubbed the ‘Atome,’ making the two-piece swimsuit an international sensation.

Impeccable condition.
