Pierre Cardin Haute Couture 1963 Cowl Neckline Dress
Pierre Cardin’s first namesake collections, beginning in 1950, reflected his classic haute couture training, having previously worked at Paquin and Dior. In the mid 60s however, Cardin was inspired by the prospect of space exploration, unveiling his iconic ‘Cosmocorps’ collection in 1964.
This dress hails from a period of transitioning for the house. It boasts a draping cowl neck, popularized by Madeleine Vionnet in the 1920s, but is constructed of a very modern blue synthetic crêpe. It is fully silk-lined, and the tag has traces of a handwritten reference number.
Due to the age of the garment, some of the hand-stitching on the lining has loosened or become undone. Otherwise, perfect condition.
