Stéphane Rolland Haute Couture F/W 2013 Square Jacket

Stéphane Rolland was named creative director of menswear at Balenciaga at only 20 years old, and later discovered the world of Haute Couture as creative director of Jean-Louis Scherrer for 10 years. He founded his own label in 2007, and is today one of only 16 permanent members of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

For his Fall / Winter 2013 couture collection, Rolland called upon Spanish choreographer and dancer Rafael Amargo to perform during the runway presentation. The collection as a whole was inspired by Velázquez and the sobriety of the Spanish court: "Everything is related to Spain from the 17th Century. At the royal court, everybody was wearing black with a white collar. Very serious images, very intense, and that’s what I loved in Velázquez and what I wanted to bring in my collection."

This silk-lined wool jacket boasts sharply pointed shoulders, constructed with rigid pads. The extreme square silhouette truly gives this piece that desired intensity, as do the contrasting glossy black strips which adorn the opening and the sleeves. The deep black and navy color combination was at the center of this collection.

This particular model was created by Rolland for his mother, Genevieve Darmon, who wore it to the presentation of his collection.

Other than some light scrape marks on the black strips on the sleeves, it is in perfect condition.
