Ted Lapidus 1960s A-Line Suit
Ted Lapidus was a revolutionary force in the democratization of fashion. Years before Yves Saint Laurent unveiled his iconic Rive Gauche line, Lapidus created his diffusion line, offering upscale ready-to-wear targeted towards a younger audience.
This double-breasted suit is an impeccable example from his very early ready-to-wear collections. Made from a rough wool fabric, it boasts peak lapels, slim sleeves, and perfectly rounded shoulders which add a very couture feel. The pants are slim with a slight flair. The A-line silhouette is very characteristic of Ted Lapidus' 'New Classique.' This particular model was known as the 'Matin' or morning length; easy and casual but nonetheless extremely elegant. The ensemble is hand finished, and the nautical themed buttons exemplify Lapidus’ fascination for everything maritime.
Unworn and in impeccable condition. Due to their age, the glossy coat on the buttons shows minor signs of cracking.
