Les Ateliers

Haute Couture is made possible not only through the genius of the designer, but by the invaluable savoir-faire that is developed and transmitted by the ateliers who supply maisons with custom textiles, laces, embroideries, buttons, accessories, and embellishments.

As mechanization replaces this highly specialized manual labour force, Haute Couture houses represent some of their last sources of income.

In honor of their indispensable contribution to the world of fashion, here is an ongoing compilation of some of the most notable ateliers, most of which have today either been absorbed by a luxury conglomerate, or forced to close their doors.
